jeff derringer’s ballorama e.p. is the fourth release from brooklyn born and now berlin based label l.a.g. run by arthur kimskii. the e.p. contains two original tracks the from chicago based techno producer/ smart bar resident with an additional dub version from the duo cassegrain. ballorama is the big room techno bomb with hints of 90&#8242,,,s rave and house like chords and chops. work ethic is an emotional sci-fi roller with restrained emotional melodic tension anchored by rhythmic percussion. the ballorama dub version strips down the original and expertly pans various noise and textures which bounces with tension.

next up on obsession recordings is a new one from label co-founder primitive world (sam willis of walls/ecstatic) following up from his excellent previous release ‘worship / premonition . fast falling hands , has a relentless, almost abrasive groove, offset with a staggered insolent bassline and jagged percussion which see primitive world further developing his off kilter sensibility and sense of texture. on the flip, ‘rush’ twists proceedings up with its humid atmosphere, heavy breathing, and the unique sense of restraint seen demonstrated in his previous work.

the munich-based duo mrad is a full hardware generated techno project and delivers here the frst release of their label tuesday slump. their 3 track debut ep keeps all promises and shows us the widespread variety & full range of their work. the a side only comes as a heavy jacking bigroom foorburner. a mighty 303 bass line, hissy hihats & mechanical noises make this track to a perfect techno trip for the late night hours. resident on the b side is a rough and catchy cut whereas hazen takes us on a spaced-out excursion with its beautiful & atmospheric synths. this is raw, this is analogue, this is munich city!

this year is the 2nd year of polen and right now we are presenting the fifth record. louis is a drummer, a bassist, a musician and a dancer and this is his ep for polen. it was a lot of recreating and a lot of shifting to get the end result, but it was worth waiting for. music for dancefloor, for mornings and afternoons, for dancing feet and chosen ears. the art work is made by anne-sophie kneer.

title track joyride kicks things off with a straight up 909 beat, complete with scifi sweeps and classic wood block percussion, quickly working its way into an very subtle groove with every element working effectively to keep it fully funk laden. sideways completes the a side of the release and gets going right from the beginning. pumping percussion takes hold and hits the ground running before a perfectly weighted synth hook lashes over the top with henning playing with the synths lfo to creative effect. dust takes things down a notch as swirling pads drape themselves over a serious 909 beat. henning lets this one loop out, letting the subtle variations in the synths do the work as the 909 holds the beat solid and reminiscent of early berlin/detroit dub techno crossovers. mars attacks closes of the ep and does so in particularly fine fashion. a more broken beat affair this time from henning and he really works his machines into a sonic warfare of bass tones and tweaked out synths that sear through the crashing percussion workout.

shadeleaf continues, with a strident 7 out of 7 on the scoreboard! following a stunning (and sell-out !) ep earlier last year, the north easts answer to michigans finest, steps up again, with probably his strongest work to date. mannmademusic became known very quickly, over the space of a few low key, but expertly realised edits releases for the likes of glenview, lumberjacks in hell & diner city sounds. this ep sees him continue wearing his influences proudly, but re-imagine them in an altogether rawer framework - samples woven together, augmented and redefined, some of it following the classic kdj blueprint but laid out in a style thats all his own. those familiar loops submerged and unfurling, rubbing up against altogether more off-kilter but coherent workouts, sat alongside perfectly measured electronic jams all combining into an ep that stands head and shoulders above the competition. another shadeleaf sureshot!

new on the delsin x-series is my home is sonic, a standout techno, dub and minimal album originally released in 2001 by icelandic producer arnvidur snorrason aka exos on ae recordings. exos is the son of dub techno producer octal and released three albums in his career, as well as a swathe of fine eps on labels like thule, mosaic, slow to speak and has recently being picked up by nina kraviz. his ability to build great atmospheres and heady soundscapes was unrivalled, and though they bottle up influences, they are always fresh, wintry and compelling. few have done minimal dub techno better before or since this masterpiece album, so it s right that 2015 sees it revisited by fans old and new alike.

for his comeback release on ukraine s wicked bass label, the gloomy producer hiding behind the alias raw m.t. presents another set of trippy, yet noticeably simplified masterpieces of 90 s e-werk informed analog techno. falling into nowhere with its melancholic xylo drops and twin peaks infused pads takes us to a setting of descending sadness, while random peak leads and swinging hats on abductions and essense , in contrast, contribute to a much more dancefloor-friendly and optimistic picture. three fine cuts that will work both at peak and afterparty time.
